I have played in the Michael Nyman band since Autumn 1983, when I was asked to join them for a short UK tour. Since then Michael has become a hugely successful composer and the band has toured the world many times.
Here are a few examples of what we do:
This is from a concert in Barcelona. "Come unto the Yellow Sands" is from the film "Prospero's Books".
Chasing Sheep is Best Left to Shepherds. This is usually the first piece that we play in a concert. It is from the soundtrack to the film "The Draughtsmans Contract".
Michael collaborated with the film director Peter Greenaway many times and this relationship helped people discover Michael's music before the film "The Piano" made him world famous.
This is from a film made about Michael and the band during the year leading up to a performance at the Proms.
Here's an example of one of the more complicated bass parts that Michael has written.
